AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF THE HOME GUARD FEATURED IN NATIONAL NEWSPAPERS

Hello everyone! I'm pleased to say that my new book was featured in three national newspapers yesterday. The Daily Mail, the Times and the Daily Telegraph all ran stories yesterday about the book and in particular focused on the story of Laurie Butler and Exmouth L.D.V. and Home Guardsman. He dispatched a vicious Barbary Ape in Exmouth during WWII with his Sten gun. The large ape had mortally wounded a woman and was promptly shot by Laurie when asked to by local residents who had found her at the back of her house. Laurie, who was only 15 at the time and still lives in Exmouth today remembered the story with a laugh, when we spoke again yesterday.

An Illustrated History of the Home Guard features testimony from surviving members of the Home Guard and detailed technical photographs (taken by by John Dyer) of uniforms and equipment used by the men. It is published by Halsgrove and is available at all good bookshops.
