The Women Farmers Union held their annual conference this year at Bicton College. The general theme was the Women's Land Army and the important role which it played in WWII feeding the nation. We were ivited to perform before the meal and after playing our sing-a-long sets in the early part of the evening and later played a really gentle set of Acoustic American Numbers in an adjoining room for a really appreciative audience. Sue Virgin who specialises in talks about the Women's Land and the Women's Timber Corps, the talk was fascinating and Sue is a really animated and passionate presenter. It was brilliant. Thanks Sue we learnt so much. There were some of the original WLA members at the event too and it was great to see them looking at the displays of equipment and discussing the items with the WFU members.
There are plans afoot to erect a memorial to the WLA by the womenslandarmytibute.co.uk at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire so please check out their website and see how they are currently raising funds.
